Diversity
“The Diversity Discipline deals with the qualities, experiences and work styles that make individuals unique—age, race, religion, disabilities, ethnicity, etc.—as well as how organizations can leverage those qualities in support of business objectives. It also includes matters that focus on diversity-related careers, communications, legal and regulatory issues, technology, metrics and outsourcing, as well as effective diversity practices and global diversity issues. It touches on but does not primarily deal with federal, state and local equal employment opportunity laws. These are encompassed under the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Topic within both the Staffing Management Discipline (for EEO matters arising in the pre-employment context) and the Employee Relations Discipline (for EEO matters arising within the employer-employee relationship)” (SHRM 2010).

The primary goals of HRMA’s Diversity Committee are to assess and address diversity among HRMA members, identify best practices and measurements for diversity to be provided to HRMA members, and serve as a diversity resource for HRMA members and their organizations.

Workforce Readiness
“Workforce readiness can be defined as having new workplace entrants prepared to enter the workforce with the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes in order to engage in endeavors that will be required in their respective occupations. Partnerships and alliances between educational institutions, governmental entities and employers can assist in ensuring that these new workforce entrants are sufficiently prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities they will face in the workplace” (SHRM, 2010).

The primary goals of HRMA’s Workforce Readiness Committee are to identify the workforce readiness resources most helpful to HR professionals and promote those resources within the HRMA membership, and determine how HRMA members can advocate for and facilitate workforce readiness initiatives in our community and organizations.
