Message From the President

Greetings, HRMA Members! It's official! We will now be known as Society for Human Resources Management of Greater St. Louis. A motion was made and approved by the membership at the May 16th meeting.
This change clarifies our affiliation with the national SHRM organization and hopefully makes it easier for potential members to find us. Thanks to Dean Kpere-Daibo, Ben Houseman, and the other Board members for their help and support to accomplish this.

A big THANK YOU to those who helped with the second annual Human Resources Day of Service held on May 4, 2018 together with NAAAHR and the United Way. The day started with a presentation about some of the challenges non-profits face with Human Resources issues. Many agencies attended the program at the United Way, and a number of other participants joined via live stream provided by McMahon Berger. Volunteers from HRMA-STL (now SHRM-STL) and NAAAHR then visited sites around the area to offer HR related assistance. Chapters around the state joined us in serving their own communities making this both a local and state-wide opportunity to celebrate the HR profession by giving back. It was a huge hit!

There's still time to nominate someone for the LEAD award (for outstanding service by an individual to the profession) presented each year to a member from one of the 11 State chapters at the MOSHRM conference in August. Our chapter must provide a nomination, but anyone can submit a nomination for someone you feel is worthy. You can find the nomination form online at http://moshrm.org/lead-award/. Your nomination should go directly to the MOSHRM State Council.

The Annual Conference will be held at Ameristar Casino on October 12, 2018. Planning is underway - the first announcement will be made in the near future. I hope you have it on your calendar because it is always jam-packed with great speakers and sessions. As you know, it is included in your annual membership - a considerable value since similar programs cost more than our annual membership.

Finally, our summer symposium session will be held at the Clayton Plaza Hotel on Carondelet in Clayton. The June program will be announced soon.

So, SHRM-STL has a lot going on and many exciting things to look forward to over the course of the next couple of months. If you have any other ideas for SHRM St. Louis, do not hesitate to bring them to any of our Board Members.

I look forward to seeing you all soon! We're "Going the Distance!"
