What does it take to be a mentor or protege? Mentors generally have at least five years of HR Management or similar experience. Many have a PHR or SPHR certification. The time commitment is limited: one-year, for up to two hours per month (if requested). Proteges currently work in HR and desire coaching from a more experienced HR professional on their career development. They are able to set goals and listen to feedback to obtain HR knowledge from their mentors.
Benefits of participation: Proteges gain valuable information, expand their HR network and work towards career goals. Mentors obtain a fresh perspective and feel good about helping others. Mentors can also earn 5 HRCI Recertification Credits per year, up to 10 credits per recertification period. That's one-sixth of the amount needed to recertify!
