Message From the President
I am very excited to be leading HRMA St. Louis in 2018. Past President, John Marino, led some very great initiatives, and it is my hope to continue to build on those in 2018. Highlighting our year was HRMA St. Louis' selection as a SHRM Pinnacle Award finalist with our first submission of the MO HR Day of Service project. Without the hard work of many members of our chapter, we would not have been a contender!We will be starting off the year, as always, with the Committee Fair next week. If you are interested in becoming more involved in HRMA St. Louis, the fair gives you an opportunity to find out about and volunteer for various leadership areas and roles. Becoming more involved is a great way to meet new people and be part of the many projects and programs taking place throughout HRMA. Also coming soon is our annual Legal Update, our annual program offering the chance to talk with over a dozen attorneys in a small group setting on the many topics/challenges that we face every day.
2018 brings the winter Olympics, and this made me think of how difficult working in HR can be, and that it is a marathon most days, not a sprint. Employers realize more and more that involving HR strategically can help make the best use of the most critical work resource - the people - which ultimately leads our employers to success. As HR professionals, we are there to see the employer through the good, the bad and the ugly, and we are there "going the distance" every day!
Since SHRM's inception in 1948, St. Louis has been a premier chapter, setting a high standard for all that we undertake. This is made possible by you - our great membership! Planning is under way for a fantastic slate of programs, projects, and events - I look forward to seeing you there with us!
